Unit 3

Reflections of my well-being

Hello All!

After reflecting on myself and my well-being, I would say that my spiritual well-being is at a 5(?), I was raised in a catholic family but as I’ve grown, I tend to struggle with religions. I practice being happy and making others happy. I’m not sure how to go about becoming more spiritual aside from following what I believe to be positive morals and beliefs that I hold for myself.

My physical well-being I would rate at an 8. I am very conscious of what I eat, I am vegetarian and eat as organic as possible, no processed/packaged foods. I run a few times a week but I know I can do more, I am at a healthy weight according to my height (5’2, 104 lbs.) My goal is to do a bit of strength training in addition to cardio.

My psychological well-being is an 8. I am a very optimistic person and am happy for the most part. I (I won the smiley face award where I work!) I handle stress pretty well and avoid conflict at all costs. I am an analytical thinker as well. I do however, struggle when it comes to being upset or having my feelings hurt, it can sometimes take a bit to get past the hurt but I won’t let it take control. I practice yoga and feel that it helps in many aspects. I goal I would like to work towards is doing different types of meditation aside from yoga.
I found the relaxation technique this week to be a bit harder in the visualization aspect of the exercise so my mind wandered much more. Toward the end I didn’t have to redirect as much and found concentration becoming easier. I was not as relaxed in the end as I would’ve hoped to be but I think I just need more practice and it will come.

  1. Maria,

Good for you for winning the smiley face award!! Being a happy person is always a great thing.
I think that spirituality is a very personal thing and I love that you just try to be a good person and stay true to your morals and beliefs.
Physically and emotionally, good for being an 8. I don't know how many people can say that.
Finding new ways to meditate can be challenging but fun. Good luck in finding something new.

  2. I kind of feel where you are coming from as well Maria. I was raised in a Methodist Church. After my dad's stroke in 2011, he decided to start going to church again since he was a young child and I went with him. We continue to go and rarely miss a day. However, when I started out on my own, I found a church that better suited my thoughts and beliefs, much to my dad's dislike.

  3. Maria, I can relate to your thoughts regarding religion. I mentioned in my blog that after being raised Southern Baptist I broke away from that as I got older and now just practice being more spiritual and less religious. If you have children, are you teaching them the same?

  4. Maria, I too can relate regarding religion. I was raised in Detroit with my father than went to live with my mother and was put in Plymouth Christian Academy (total culture shock)...went to church 5 days a week.......and always struggled with the religion part. So I did some research and found that All Religions have the same thing in common, a belief in a Higher Power. Something bigger than yourself.

    Warmest Wishes,
